Grants between £250 - £5000 are available for volunteer led community groups working exclusively in the area of Stoke-On-Trent and Staffordshire.
Grassroot Grants are funded by the Office of the Third Sector. Their aim is to target small community groups, especially those who are unable to access larger funders, and help to make them more sustainable over the long term. For example a grant may be given for buying equipment, small scale building works or providing training for volunteers.
What can be funded:
> Volunteer led community and voluntary groups
> Organisations based in Staffordshire
> Organisations that meet the needs of, or providing a service for the local community
> Have been active for at least 12 months prior to the date of application
> Have an income of less than £30,000 p.a. as an average of the past 3 years
> Groups whose beneficiaries are people, (not animals, plants or the environment)
> Lobbying or campaign groups, (providing the community would be the main beneficiary)
> Training (where training is for volunteers)
> Equipment
> Awareness days for a particular cause
> Work on a building providing the group is the occupant and has at least ten years left on the lease
> Grants awarded between £250 and £5000
What will not be funded:
> Statutory organisations (including Local Authorities, Parish Councils, Schools, Police, PCTs)
> Any organisation which will benefit a statutory organisation
> Any national organisation based in Staffordshire
> Solely commercial ventures
> Party political activity
> Activity promoting religion or with a strong religious undertone
> Staff costs or costs associated with staff
> Running costs of a one off event with no long-term benefit
> Projects that benefit Asylum Seekers, (as defined by the Home Office)
Considerations:
> Our grant should make a substantial difference to the project
> Our grant should represent a significant contribution to the project
> Our grant should deliver value for money
> Our grant should secure maximum community use or benefit
> We would prefer to fund equipment or training costs associated with one off or annual events, as opposed to running costs for them.

The easiest way to apply for a Grassroots Grant is by our apply online function. It is submitted to us immediately and is quicker to process.

However you can apply by e-mail. You can download a copy of the application form by clicking the 'Download & Apply by Email' icon on the left.
Fill it in and return it to us by email. You can scan in all supporting documents (quotes, constitution, accounts and signed signature sheet) and send them by email too.

The least preferred option is to complete it by hand. You can download a copy of the application form and post it to us. It will not be treated any differently to an online or e-mailed application but processing it takes a little longer.
