Tamworth Community Fund
The Tamworth Community Fund was started in March 2010. Unlike other area funds, there were no applicable 'dormant funds' to kick-start the fund. However, the people of Tamworth showed their support and had raised over £500 within a week - impressive considering that the fund has not undergone its official launch yet.
Tamworth Borough Council, Tamworth Herald and Tamworth CVS have all got behind the fund as they can see the long term good that the fund will bring to the borough's many community and voluntary groups who do so much good for the area. It has also received informal backing from the MP, Christopher Pincher.
In September 2011, former Mayor of Tamworth, Lee Bates, amde a donation from his own fundraising efforts of over £3000, which brought the fund to nearly £4000.
The idea of the fund is to encourage business, enterprises and individuals to donate to a central fund. All the money raised will be invested according to Charity Commission guidelines to enable the fund to grow in value. The interest earned on the fund will be split, part of it added to the fund and reinvested so that it continues to grow, year on year. The other part of the interest will be used to create a grants scheme specifically for third sector, charity and voluntary organisations in the Tamworth area. Grants can then be given out year on year and the fund will continue to grow to give out more each year.
The fund will receive it's official public launch in March 2012, although preparations for it are already underway.
